MC Lyte Will Be Honored At The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards

Hip-hop Legend MC Lyte will be honored at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards. She will receive the ‘I Am Hip Hop Award’. This years show is hosted by  Snoop Dog.

The show will be filmed on Sept. 28 and air on Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET.

Blazing inroads with her uncompromising style, MC Lyte first came to prominence with the 1988 album “Lyte as a Rock.” The legendary lyricist was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Performance for the 1993 top 10 R&B/hip-hop hit “RuffNeck.” MC Lyte recently released a new single, “Cravin’.” In addition to musical achievements, the I Am Hip Hop Award recognizes the honoree’s community contributions. During the course of her career, MC Lyte has established the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, which awards a full scholarship to a deserving four-year college student, and the Hip Hop Sisters Network, a platform through which female artists can showcase their talents. MC Lyte joins such previous I Am Hip Hop honorees as Rakim, Russell Simmons, Salt-N-Pepa and Grandmaster Flash. Earlier this summer, it was announced that MC Lyte will be one of six female MCs featured in a new upcoming BET reality show, “Hip Hop Sisters.” Rounding out the cast are The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama.
