Xclusive Memphis was one of the media outlets invited to the 2014 365 Black Awards. The event was held down in New Orleans, Essence Festival Weekend. In addition to working the yellow carpet we were also invited along to watch the live taping of the show.
Kevin Liles was presented with the 2014 Entertainment Icon award. I got to speak with Kevin on the carpet and he was so humble and informative. He has a lot of projects he is working on.
He is Founder and CEO of KWL Enterprises, a strategic holding company anchored by the noted brand and talent development firm, KWL Management, and comprised of a portfolio of businesses ranging from entertainment content to online education and telecommunications. KWL Management works with entertainers, athletes and models to develop brands, forge partnerships, and cultivate successful careers.
Mr. Liles is a committed philanthropist and advocate for youth empowerment and education. He is the founder of Kevin Liles for a Better Baltimore, which empowers disadvantaged youth in his home town, and the Make It Happen Foundation, which provides underserved youth with entrepreneurship skills and exposure to higher education. He serves as a board member or advisor to several other organizations focused on empowerment, diversity, and social justice. He is the best-selling author of Make It Happen: The Hip-Hop Generation Guide to Success, and a producer for the critically acclaimed Broadway playThe Trip To Bountiful, which earned Cicely Tyson her first Tony Award.
His award was presented by his friend Soledad O’brien.
