OMG!!! Where did all the time go? It seems like we were at the Southern Heritage Classic. And now here we are at the close of yet other year. My favorite time of the year, that’s right…,MY BIRTHDAY!! I’m a New Year’s Day baby! I’m talking partying, parades, football games, poppin’ champagne etc. all for me (well maybe not for me but I’ll claim it!! LOL)! With the New Year come new beginnings, fresh starts and new trends and fashion!!!! With that being said, check the jump.
The 2014 color of the year is……..
RADIANT ORCHID!!! Get ready ya’ll, this color will be everywhere whether you like it or not!! I’m talking clothing, shoes, accessories etc. Now for those of you who may not believe me, just watch and see. If Pantone says it is…..then it is!!! Designers take heed to the Pantone Color Institute and so should you. So when you’re shopping be on the lookout for this color. Also sheath dresses, chiffon frocks, fringe, statement shirts, crop tops and ruffles were all the rage on runways for during Fashion Month (October) for spring 2014.
Ooh, that’s scandalous!!
Now everyone that knows me KNOWS that I am a Scandal-holic and a true Gladiator. I love this show, the drama, the suspense and mostly the fashion!! That damn Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington’s character) is one sharp dressed lady (WERK!!!). I mean she’s always “snatched.” Even her apartment is on point (Crate and Barrel all up and through). Now her style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but if it is and you want that “Pope” look, keep reading.
To achieve this classic yet fierce look there are 10 essentials you must have:
- 1. Soft, neutral colors (taupe, pastels, white, black etc.) paired with earth tones.
- 2. Silk blouses
- 3. Peplum jackets (second photo)
- 4. High collars
- 5. Wide leg trousers/ structured dresses
- 6. Cowl necklines
- 7. Elbow- length leather gloves
- 8. Long station necklaces
- 9. Soft hair (loose curls, roller wraps etc.)
- 10. Simple, clean make-up (nearly nude lips)
Remember, if your clothes don’t fit like you’d like them to have them tailored. Now, the clothes we see on the show are expensive (Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana etc.) but this doesn’t mean you can’t achieve her style. Try stores like NY & Company, Macy’s, Dillard’s or TJ Maxx for pieces. Avoid busy patterns, bulky jewelry and artistic nails. This is a
great look for interviews, work, church or dates. Also, if you still feel the need to make a “statement” then, do it with an eye catching bag. Classic lines and neutral colors are important. Try stores such as Forever 21, TJ Maxx, DSW or Amazon.com for accessories
