This past Friday, Grizz Nation took team pride to a new level. In honor of Memphis Grizzlies newest player, James Johnson, The Grizzlies Franchise passed out neck tatts to fans in attendance.
The first 5,000 fans that attended the game against the LA Clippers received the clear tatt with the word “GRIZZLIES” to go on their neck.
Johnson has a permanent tattoo of his son on his neck. The tattoo was a tribute he made to his infant son who was born early and ill. Johnson tattoo reads “NAYMIN 3.9.13”. He received it last March.
“Life changed for me after that,” Johnson said. “Life wasn’t about only me anymore. After that day, the head on my shoulders was different from what it was before.”
“The tattoo he got wasn’t a symbol of toughness,” Grizzlies chief operating officer Jason Wexler said. “It was a transformational moment in his life, and that resonates with our fans and fits in with everything we are.”
As with everything not everyone was thrilled with the idea. But check out a few of the tatts we spotted on Twitter/IG:
