Happy 36th Birthday to one of the newest members of the Memphis Grizzlies. Matt is one of the most talented and outspoken players we have. He is never one to shy away from his words and is always quick on his feet on the court.
I have spotted Matt out several times throughout the city and he is always so easy to chat with and appears to have adjust to the South pretty quickly.
Here are a few things about Matt you may or may not have known:
- He originally was selected in the draft by Memphis, Barnes was drafted in the second round of the 2002 NBA draft by Memphis.
- He attended Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, California, where he was a letterman in football and basketball.
- He was then traded that summer along with Nick Anderson to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Wesley Person, but was cut that October. He later joined the Fayetteville Patriots of the NBA D-League for the 2002–03 season and the Long Beach Jam of the ABA for the 2003–04 season.
- He earned All-American, All-State, All-CIF, All-City, and All-League honors in each sport.[2]
- Barnes played four seasons of college basketball at UCLA, where he was an All-Pacific-10 Honorable Mention selection in 2001.
