Yesterday, as most families prepared to indulge in food, fun and fireworks; Grizz Nation was mourning a lost. Well technically no one died, we just lost a family member. Mid-day news broke that our beloved Zach Randolph was leaving the Memphis Grizzlies for the Sacramento Kings.
As the breaking news began to make its round on social media the fireworks exploded. With mixed emotions fans began to post tons of their favorite Z-Bo moments. Photos, Videos, slideshows, and countless autographed memorabilia made its rounds on several social media accounts.
Z-bo and his family fitted in so well in Memphis, it’s like they belonged. The city of Memphis embraced Z-BO upon his arrival to the time and showered him with love. I felt that Zach would truly retire in Memphis and call the city home. I’ve run into Zach countless times at the local stores and eateries. He has always been warm, welcoming and never says ‘no’ to a picture. I have also had the pleasure of meeting his wife, Faune.
On June 30, 2014, Randolph exercised his player option for the 2014–15 season and signed a two-year, $20 million contract extension with the Grizzlies.
We have seen Zach suit up for the last time in Beale Street Blue. As the 2017-2018 NBA season gears up, we are one man down. We are officially minus 50.
But the 2 year 24 million dollar contract that he reportedly has signed, this is the best move for his career. In a few days (July 16) will celebrate another birthday! Happy Early Birthday Zach!
His wife took to social media to post a ‘Thank-You’ Message on Behalf of the Randolph Family.
Thanks Zach for the memories, the smiles, the hugs, the selfies and for being our big man with an even bigger heart. The Grit and Grind Spirit continues in the city, minus one big smiling face.
Memphis loves You, Memphis supports you, Memphis will miss you, #50 out!
