During my recent visit to Atlanta, GA, I took some time to check out the CNN Tour. I had done some research and it seemed like a really cool place to visit. I enjoyed the tour, I asked many of questions and took lots of pictures.
They could probably tell I was a blogger or I worked in media; I was throwing my tour guide all kinds of questions.
For starters when you enter into the building you are in the lobby. It’s a pretty neat and clean area, it consists of lots of restaurants and small boutique shops. You don’t need a ticket to go in and dine and check out the nice view.
Secondly, security, security, security, you have to go through a metal detector and be wand before you are allowed to move past the first floor. Only the first floor is open to the public. Beyond that point you need a pass, ticket or an escort.
After you make it pass security you are sent up 8 floors via escalator. I learned that the escalator you take is the longest free-standing escalators in the world. And trust me it was a long ride up. As you go up you see lots of office space and more security. I am telling you this place is heavily secured. Your visit begins with a ride on the world’s largest freestanding escalator before transporting you to the inside of a 50-foot globe. There visitors have the opportunity to view some of the greatest moments in news history. Guests can then take a 50-minute CNN studio tour featuring the Control Room Theater, Special Effects studio and Interactive News Desk section.
We got to check out teleprompters readings, set ups, news rooms lay out, scripts and more. We even got to get a glimpse of Nancy Grace’s area. I love her show. There are some areas you are not permitted to take pictures. FYI
The one place I thought was the coolest was the work area. The picture below displays a lot of computers. But the system they use is pretty neat. One side handles breaking news, one side handles verifying news and one side handles posting the news.
I won’t to go into all the questions I asked, don’t want to spoil the tour. But I did ask how is CNN always on top of thing in different areas. They work heavily with affiliate stations.
Check out the tour the next time you are in Atlanta, your experience may be different, but I am sure you will enjoy it.
P.S.Google what CNN stands for prior to the tour.
I usually don’t post pics; but I had a great time. 🙂

We were just there this past weekend, and really enjoyed the tour as well. That free standing escalator was impressive, as well the whole CNN operation. I was surprised at all the security, but I suppose it is needed, being in the public eye as they are. I, too, asked a lot of questions–but not as many as I wanted, because I was the only one asking! Great pics.
