This past weekend the TSD held it’s annual Best In Black Awards in downtown Memphis. The event was held at the Cannon Center. It was very upscale and elegant.
The Best In Black Awards is hosted annually by The New Tri-State Defender to shine a light upon some of the best African-American businesses, community organizations, and entrepreneurs in the Mid-South. The BIB Award’s mission is to celebrate Black owned and supported businesses in the Mid-South, serving as a marketing and recognition platform for those individuals and companies while ultimately encouraging the community’s next generation business leaders.
Memphians Yo Gotti and Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway were finalists in two of the award categories.
Yo Gotti walked away with the award for Best Memphis Celebrity. K. Michelle and The Neelys were also finalists up against Gotti.
Hardaway was awarded Best Athlete/Sports Figure. Penny was up against my guy Tony Allen (Memphis Grizzlies) and Mike Conley (Memphis Grizzlies).
Due to their schedules, neither were in attendance. Penny thanked fans and friends via video for the award.
We love how they both represent the city!
