This past weekend the city of Memphis was rejoicing as The Memphis Tigers defeated Ole Miss.. The victory is one that Tigers fans are still celebrating. The Memphis Tigers beat No. 13 Ole Miss, which beat No. 10 Alabama. This is Memphis’ biggest win since 1996.
The game drew 60,241 fans, which was the most for the Liberty Bowl since 2006. In addition to the entire city cheering for the team former U of M running back Deangelo Williams took part in the celebration as well.
Deangelo is currently playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL)’ however he played college football at Memphis, and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
He holds the Division I National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record for 100-yard rushing games (34) and All purpose yards (7,573). He also ranks fourth on the all-time NCAA rushing list with 6,026 yards. Williams was on the 2004 Pro Football Weekly All-America Team.
Although, Deangelo is playing for the Steelers, I stil root for him, because no matter how far away he is from home, he is sure to be cheering for Memphis. He makes it no secret that he is a fan of The Memphis Grizzlies in addition to his former college, U of M.
Every time I run across Deangelo he is so down to earth and humble. Got to love the Southern Hospitality and charm that he still holds.
Congrats Memphis Tigers!!
