Fresh off his honeymoon, friend to the site Tony Allen came back in town ready to work. This past Friday the Memphis Grizzles Star Tony Allen put the finishing touches on his 3rd Annual Grit & Grind Basketball Skills Academy held in Memphis, TN. The camp was held at Colonial Park Methodist in East Memphis. Xclusive Memphis popped in to see what the academy was all about and what skills the kids were working on.
When we walked in the gym, Tony Allen was hard at work on the court with the mini basketball players. It was actually hilarious to see the kids attempt to hold the Grizzles Forward and take his ball. Some of the boys, were challenging Tony’s NBA skills on the court.
Tony is the founder of the Grit and Grind Foundation, Inc. He is a firm believer in passing on his knowledge of life, basketball, and his unyielding belief that education is the key to opportunity and success for our future leaders of tomorrow. His motto is “If you can dream it, you can achieve with hard work and dedication, and by Staying in School!”
The G&G Basketball Skills Academy was designed to assist boys and girls in the development of their basketball skills, including shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, and defense. It also helped the youth in the sport of basketball, giving them the kind of focused intensive training that is essential to improvement.
I salute Tony for giving the kids of Memphis a positive camp to be involved in. They had a blast. I also had fun watching them play, running drills and dodging the balls. Yes, balls were coming at me left and right.
